Snap vs Tough vs MagSafe Phone Cases | Case & Charm

Snap vs Tough vs MagSafe phone case — what’s the difference, and which one should you choose?

You’ve found the phone case design you love. Now comes the slightly less exciting part: deciding which type of phone case is right for you.

Should you choose a slim Snap phone case, a more protective Tough phone case, or a MagSafe phone case that works with compatible magnetic accessories?

The best phone case for you depends on how you use your phone, how much protection you prefer and whether MagSafe compatibility is important.

At Case & Charm, many of our phone case designs are available in several different case styles, so you can choose the finish and level of protection that works for you without compromising on the design.

Here’s how Snap, Tough and MagSafe Tough phone cases compare.

What Is a Snap Phone Case?

A Snap phone case is the slimmest and lightest of our three main case styles.

Case & Charm Snap cases have a hard, ultra-thin shell with a glossy printed finish. They fit closely around your phone without adding lots of extra bulk, making them ideal if you prefer a sleek and lightweight phone case.

A Snap phone case could be right for you if:

  • You prefer a slim phone case
  • You don't like bulky cases
  • You regularly carry your phone in a pocket or small bag
  • The appearance of your case is particularly important to you
  • You enjoy changing your phone case to suit your outfit or the season

Because the construction is lightweight, Snap cases are particularly suited to customers looking for a stylish everyday case rather than our more substantial dual-layer option.

If you love switching between stripes, animal prints, florals, bows or seasonal designs, a Snap case is an easy way to give your phone a completely different look.

What Is a Tough Phone Case?

A Tough phone case is designed for customers who want a more substantial case and additional everyday protection.

Unlike the single-shell construction of a Snap case, our Tough cases have two layers: a hard polycarbonate outer shell and an inner TPU layer.

The result is a sturdier case that feels more protective in your hand while still allowing the printed design to take centre stage.

A Tough phone case could be better if:

  • You want more protection than a Snap case provides
  • Your phone spends a lot of time in a handbag or larger bag
  • You prefer a sturdier case
  • You want a dual-layer phone case
  • You still want a decorative or fashion-led design

For many people, a Tough case is a good balance between style, protection and everyday practicality.

It is also a useful option if you love the look of our Snap cases but would simply feel happier with an additional protective layer around your phone.

What Is a MagSafe Tough Phone Case?

A MagSafe Tough phone case combines the dual-layer construction of our Tough case with a built-in MagSafe-compatible ring.

That means you get the more substantial feel of the Tough case while also being able to use compatible MagSafe accessories.

Choose a MagSafe phone case if:

  • You use a MagSafe charger
  • You use a magnetic phone holder
  • You regularly use MagSafe accessories
  • You want a dual-layer protective phone case
  • Wireless charging compatibility is important to you

For anyone already using MagSafe as part of their daily routine, choosing a MagSafe-compatible phone case means you don’t have to sacrifice your favourite Case & Charm print for practicality.

Snap vs Tough vs MagSafe Phone Case: What's the Difference?

If you're comparing the three options, the main differences are thickness, construction and MagSafe compatibility.

Snap Phone Case

Best for: A slim, lightweight feel.

The Snap is our thinnest case style and has a hard glossy shell. Choose this if keeping your phone light and streamlined is your priority.

Tough Phone Case

Best for: Additional everyday protection.

The Tough case uses a hard polycarbonate outer shell together with a TPU inner layer, giving you a more substantial dual-layer case.

MagSafe Tough Phone Case

Best for: Protection plus MagSafe compatibility.

The MagSafe Tough has the dual-layer construction of our Tough case with the addition of a MagSafe-compatible ring.

Which Phone Case Offers the Most Protection?

If protection is your main priority, our Tough and MagSafe Tough phone cases offer a more substantial construction than the Snap case because they contain both an outer shell and an inner TPU layer.

No phone case can guarantee that a device will never be damaged, so we avoid making unrealistic drop-proof or damage-proof claims.

Instead, think about how you normally use your phone.

If you are generally careful with it and prefer something extremely slim, Snap may be enough for your needs.

If you would feel more comfortable with a dual-layer case, Tough or MagSafe Tough is likely to suit you better.

Do I Need a MagSafe Phone Case?

You only really need to choose the MagSafe version if you want to use MagSafe or compatible wireless charging accessories.

Our MagSafe Tough case is the Case & Charm case option designed for wireless charging compatibility.

If you regularly use a MagSafe charger, magnetic car mount, phone grip or other magnetic accessory, choosing the MagSafe Tough case is the most practical option.

If you don't use any of those accessories, you may prefer a standard Snap or Tough case instead.

Are MagSafe Cases Bulkier Than Normal Phone Cases?

Because the Case & Charm MagSafe Tough case uses the same dual-layer style of construction as our Tough case, it will naturally feel more substantial than an ultra-thin Snap case.

For customers who want their phone to feel as slim as possible, the Snap case is usually the better fit.

For those who prioritise protection and MagSafe functionality, the slightly more substantial construction may be worth it.

What About Clear and Card-Holder Phone Cases?

Snap, Tough and MagSafe Tough aren't your only options.

Selected Case & Charm designs are also available as Clear Phone Cases and Card-Holder Cases.

A Clear Case is a lovely option if you want your phone itself to remain part of the design, while a Card-Holder Case gives you a convenient place to keep a card close at hand.

Available case types vary depending on the design and phone model, so check the individual product listing to see the options available for your device.

Does the Pattern Look Exactly the Same on Every Phone Case?

Not always.

Different phone models have different dimensions, camera openings and proportions. Because of this, pattern placement can vary slightly between devices and case types.

The pattern itself is printed onto the case, and individual design elements may appear in slightly different positions from those shown in example images.

Colours can also vary slightly depending on your screen settings and the material onto which the design is printed.

Which Phone Case Should I Choose?

Still deciding between Snap, Tough and MagSafe?

Think about the one thing that matters most to you.

Choose Snap if you want your phone case to feel slim, lightweight and streamlined.

Choose Tough if you want a more substantial dual-layer case for everyday use.

Choose MagSafe Tough if you want the dual-layer construction of a Tough case together with MagSafe compatibility.

And once you've chosen your case type, you can move on to the far more important question:
